Let Them be Little

Happy Spring?  Spring can be a tough season for me.  It’s very busy around here with lambing, chicks, gardening, and kids.  It’s also reminds me endlessly of losing my parents a few years ago.  I wrote about that some in a recent article for Everything Mom.

But there ‘s so much to be excited for!  I don’t know what the first signs of Spring are for you, but here’s what Spring looks like for us…

Calving…

Gardening…

And Lambing…

Lambing is both exciting and exhausting.  There’s always a few problems that wring your heart and stretch your nerves.  But we’re excited that our final lamb of the season (number 19!)  was born on Friday and continues in good health.  This is a special blessing because he weighed in at only 3 lbs and 12 oz Friday evening–making him the smallest 4-foot ever born here.

Just in case you weren’t totally distracted by that little cutie and are wondering how small that really is…an average set of twin lambs weight about 5.5-6 lbs each or a single usually weights in between 7-8 lbs.  Still not really seeing it?  How about this…

That speckled white giant to the left is his half-brother who is only 5 days older and weighs about 11 lbs.  Think teacup poodle with twice as much leg.  But he’s spunky, and he’s already gained about 4 oz.

Here’s a shot of encouragement straight from our backyard to you.

Happy Spring!
