“B” is for Bull

Published by under Food & Farming

Ever had one of those Ah-ha moments when you never see something the same way again and wonder how you ever missed it? I was investigating what looked like a possible umbilical site infection and discovered that Mabel… Is a Matthew. A very masculine Matthew. Living on a farm, there are certain things our kids [...]

Thankful on a Thursday 8/26/2010

Published by under Having Faith

It’s been a while since I had a Thankful on a Thursday post ready to go on time.  (It’s not for lack of material, believe me.  I have so much to be thankful for! )  But I’m glad to be back to it.  This is my own little bitty version of “kingdom work.”  Spreading the [...]

Wednesday Windings 8/25/2010

Published by under Being Creative,Being Family

So often I run out of time for handcrafting anything.  My family is my 1st, #1, top-of-the-list priority, my job and the farm are my 2nd priority (priorities?), and managing my household is my 3rd priority.  And if I manage to run into a day with 36 hours instead of 24, my hobbies (crafting, reading, [...]

Growing Up and Moving Out

Published by under Being Family,Food & Farming

Did you think I was talking about my kids?  Did you know we started the school year yesterday and I sent the Cowboy, my little Cowboy, my little big-boy, off to K3?  That’s not what this post is about.  It still squeezes my heart too much for me to write about.  And we’re not kicking [...]

Where Do You Draw the Line…

Published by under Being Family,Food & Farming

Between a farming “adventure” and a farming “near disaster?”  I guess it’s in the word “near.”  Or maybe it’s a perspective of gender–since Mr. Fix-It think it’s just drama if no one went to the ER and my poor heart is still recovering from…well…nothing. Yesterday the kids and I tumbled out of Hemi after work [...]

The Boldness of Youth

Published by under Being Family

We were at the beach for a couple days, so our first day out the kids were a little hesitant.  The waves were pretty big and strong–especially for those of us under 3 feet tall!  And they were new to this whole moving water thing.  Swimming pools don’t chase you and knock you down and [...]

Facing Fears

Published by under Being Family

We’re on vacation.  Here… It’s lovely.  It’s fairly peaceful.  The kids are loving it. L-O-V-I-N-G it. I’m scared to death.  The beach is just a steaming hot stretch of danger zone to my poor mother-heart.  Drowning, sunburn, heat stroke, kidnapping, distracted drivers, stinging jelly fish…it’s something I’ve intentionally avoided for 6 years now.  We live [...]

Awkward Adolescents

Published by under Being Family

So often people ask us how we can bring ourselves to eat those “cute little baby animals.”  When you’re looking at little, bright yellow peeps I think that’s a valid question. I used to wonder how I would be able to stomach it myself.  I mean, their so darn cute! But here’s reality, 3 weeks [...]
