Thankful on a Thursday 9/30/2010

Published by under Being Family

We just wrapped up our fall revival at church and boy am I thankful for it. Sure, it means we don’t get a nice dinner at home together all week.  And sure, gravel’s flying when I pull in to do the chores every evening before rushing back out to the service.  And sure, we’re at [...]

I’ve run into a funny thing with posting my cards–what if the person sees it here an then gets it in the mail?  Do they feel cheated?  Not special?  Not surprised and delighted at their personal, hand-made creation?  (That’s assuming, of course, that they’re reading this blog!) Someone smarter (and more organized!) would just wait [...]

Bad Habits

Published by under Being Family,Food & Farming

Speedracer and I are having a problem. He thinks he’s cute. Ok, maybe he is. And he thinks it’s going to get him out of trouble. But it’s not. He thinks being the baby will get him out of anything. But it won’t. We don’t chase chickens here.  It is totally against the rules. Granted, [...]

The Carhartt Crew

Published by under Being Family,Food & Farming

Fall is officially here.  Sort of.  It’s cool enough in the mornings and evenings to force my kids back into their coveralls. And it’s just barely cool enough that they don’t mind so much.  They miss having big, easy pockets. And they definitely miss almost waterproof, completely indestructible, fear no dirt/grime/manure/slobber clothes. Especially the boys. [...]

Report Cards

Published by under Being Family

So…report cards came out this week. I have discovered a funny thing about report cards.  When your kids are young, they don’t feel nervous about report cards.  They don’t seem to really understand what they are, particularly if they haven’t gotten in trouble for anything recently.  (The Cowboy is always a little nervous about notes [...]

Cotton Days are Here

Published by under Food & Farming

The start of cotton pickin’ season is here.  The sprayers are out and the cotton buggies are on the roads.  We don’t grow cotton, but our cousins (and just about everyone else that farms around here) grow some. It’s one of our (me and the kids, anyway) favorite crops to see harvested.  The boys like [...]

Having to be in 2-4 places at once all the time is a little tiring.  To borrow a phrase from Gini over at The McGlothin Family Nest, we’ve been going “90 to nothing” for a couple weeks now and it gets a little old.  If you’re not careful, the devil can creep up on you [...]

Well, I mentioned last week that I’ve been feeling all vintage-y lately.  Not as much as some (not enough to get out my sewing machine!) but definitely out of my regular box.  I’ve been tearing and inking and sanding and I even soaked some of my old metal buttons to get a bit of rustiness [...]

A Reflection of Your Heart

Published by under Being Family

Sitting at a table at the Fair for 4 days gave me a lot of time to “people-watch” as Mr. Fix-It likes to say.  It gave me a lot to reflect on and think about.  Seeing how other people disciplined and interacted with their children (the soybean boxes–otherwise know as “tantrum corner”– were right in [...]

The Sights

Published by under Being Family,Food & Farming

I wish I could post about the sights and sounds and smells of the Fair, but I’m a little limited by my platform here and my total ignorance of anything related to video.  So all I have is pictures.  Pictures, pictures, and more pictures. Enjoy! Bookmark on Delicious Recommend on Facebook Share with Stumblers Tweet [...]
