Updated Blog Design

Well, I was finally backed into a corner about my blog design. The design template I had been using all this time is no longer being updated and it’s become so outdated that it’s apparently vulnerable to all kinds of malware attacks. I’ve had problem after problem the last few months, but hopefully this is the end of it!

What's more fun that running down hill in a big group?

I’m sure things will be coming and going around here for a few more weeks while I get everything adjusted the way I want, but so far I think it’s looking pretty good. This web design stuff is all new to me, but WordPress is pretty user-friendly and I’ve learned some bits and pieces of coding here and there. Since I was hiding out from the pollen in the house all weekend, I’ve been busy re-arranging things. Part of me wishes I could afford to pay for a lovely new design, but then look how much learning (and frustration!) I would miss out on! {grin}

Turning around...

And can I just recommend Sucuri Monitoring to you? They’ve been amazing for me the last couple months! Absolutely amazing!

They run malware scans on my site regularly and any time they find anything they clean it up for me. Hopefully we’ve isolated and solved the on-going problem now, but the peace of mind of knowing that any time something comes up I can just log in and request help and they’ll respond within 20 minutes…it’s just priceless! {Note: They don’t guarantee that time frame or anything, it’s just been true every time I’ve contacted them!}

{Psss…They’ll even scan you site for free if you head over to their homepage and click FREE SCAN…}

...And running back up!

But here I am, with a fresh, clean look for High Cotton. I’m hoping it loads faster with the new design as well. The pictures take up a lot of loading time, but it just wouldn’t be the same around here without them. Not having two sidebars is quite an adjustment for me, but I’m getting use to it.

There’s so many things I never even noticed about webpage designs before I started looking at sites and saying, “Hmm, I wonder if I could do that…” What really stands out for you when you visit a website? The layout? The colors? The pictures?

  1. I think you did a great job!! Way to go :) I am fortunate to have a friend who totally does blog design, so I generally ask her for help!!

    For me, the first thing I notice are the colors, followed by the font/background.

    • Thanks! There were some changes I’ve been wanting to make anyway, so it turned out to be good motivation.

      I think I notice the overall color scheme first too. And the fonts. Some fonts are pretty, but very hard to read.
