With Wings as Eagles
My dad would have been 52 today. I’ve been saving these pictures from last week for his birthday because he would have LOVED them.
If the sight of roadkill bothers you (or you’re a cat lover), you’ll probably want to skip this post.
If you’re a fan of Wild Discovery in your own backyard (or a few blocks away, in this case) you’ll probably like these too. The Fed Ex guy that was stuck behind me seemed to think it was pretty cool too. Although he didn’t have much choice.
Now, we don’t live in Alaska or anything. But these days we have a lot of eagles nesting along the James River and covering our farm as part of their home range. We’ve seen two adults and up to 3 juveniles (all at one time) floating around way up high over our house.
And we’ve had two newborn lambs carried off right out of the field.
I’d love to hate them for this. But I can’t. (I’ve come close!) I was raised to believe that they are a symbol of everything good about America. They’re as ingrained in me as love of the Stars and Stripes.
And they’re a heck of a lot prettier than a turkey buzzard!
Oh my gosh, what great pictures. And you’re right, Dad would have LOVED them! Perfect birthday post for him. 🙂
Jamie – Amazing pictures — what an incredible thing to see. You are so right, your dad would have absolutely loved and appreicated the pictures.
