Teacher Appreciation Gifts…Wednesday Windings 04/04/2011

Did you know yesterday was Teacher Appreciation Day? I didn’t until about 3 o’clock Monday afternoon. (Seriously, where were the TV commercials from Hallmark on this one?) Naturally I did what any self-respecting working mom would do and ran out to buy something–

Not!

Don’t get me wrong, I love our teachers. I really do. I try to show them appreciation all year by sending cards and little token gifts with, well, everything. With our Box Tops. With our 1-2-3 grocery receipts. With our tuition payments. For all the little holidays…but I rarely actually buy anything. I don’t get out much during the week for one, and between work, school work, farm work, and housework, fitting in a shopping trip just for a token teacher gift is actually a pretty big pain in the neck. I try to keep a stock of little gifts in my closet, but this one surprised me and I’ve run a little dry since Christmas, Valentines Day, and Easter. And anyway, as someone who’s love language is receiving gifts, I know firsthand that it’s not about cost. It’s about effort.

So I did up the chores, dinner, and bedtime and sat down to figure out what I could come up with that we already had in just one evening. Lucky for me, I might not be well-stocked on gifts, but I have a lot of craft supplies.

I put together some cute gift tags.

I started out using some fun farm themed paper from October Sky because I imagined using apples when I started.

I put a quick handwritten note on the back too.

I did put an apple on the one for our male teacher, but I ended up liking all the flowers for the others. I used some new sentiment stamps from Verve Stamps. I was pretty happy with the stamp quality. They are clear stamps, and they have a really strong “cling” on the stamp block. They also have some pretty unique sentiments.

The text turned out quite vividly, even on patterned paper.

While I was making up the tags, I went ahead and baked up some cupcakes. I had already promised the Cowboy some for his lunch for the week, so this was killing two birds with one stone.

Voila!

I almost felt like it was too easy, so I went ahead and detailed the tags out with some Crystal Effects to give them a little extra detail.

You can see the dimension the Crystal Effects put on the apple.

This is also a gift that the kids really loved to give. I mean, who doesn’t love cupcakes?! They picked the ribbons and they decided who got which one. The cupcakes were a little banged up by the time they actually got into their teachers’ hands, but they seemed to go over well.

This is actually Teacher Appreciation Week and it’s the first time that I just seemed to totally miss it coming. The last couple years we actually did something for each day of the week. I feel kinda bad about it, but I’m not going to beat myself up over it too much. There’s always next year!

Did you do anything for Teacher Appreciation Day or Week? Are you the teacher? Did you get anything nice from your students?
