I’m so excited! I finished my first mini album and it’s gone off to it’s much loved recipient. Of course, now I have about 10,000 ideas for the next one running through my head too! Success breeds…motivation, I guess.
I shared about working on it a few weeks ago, and now it’s all finished up!
(Ok, I just checked out that link and it was a little bit further back then I remembered. Ok, ok, I’ll admit it–I’m slow. And easily distracted.)
I’m really happy with how it turned out, but the next one I’ll probably do a little differently. For this one I made all the pages first, then printed all the pictures and put them on the pages as the last step.
Next time I will probably print pictures as I go along. Or at least print them first and then add them as I go along. I would like for some of the embellishments to overlap the photos more than they do–especially some of the stickers.
I asked Mr. Fix-It if he thought I should go with color pictures or black an white. He suggested that color would be best. I’m glad I asked, because I would have gone with black and white and I think the color really worked out well!
I was also a little hesitant about getting all the papers and colors, etc. to match and work together. I’m crafty, but not really artistic. So I pretty much stuck with a set of Designer Series Paper from Stampin’ Up! (Good Morning Sunshine!) which includes double-sided, already-matched-for-you (meaning idiot-proof) papers.
Then I added embellishments from my crazy, little-bit-of-everything, stash. I think it turned out well and all worked together, but I feel a little more confident now about mixing up materials for the next one.
I think the kids are actually next on my list for getting one. I think it would be great to make them each one of pictures of their family, grandparents, etc. It’s a lot of work though. I might try a smaller format for theirs. This one was about 6×9 and double sided, so it was a lot of pages to cover.
I’m also thinking that it might be an awesome gift for our home daycare provider (That would be our “hdcp” by the way. She’s much more than a “babysitter.”) when Speedracer heads off to preschool this Fall and we’re officially not her second family anymore after 7 years of full-time relationship..Ok, that’s probably another post soon, but not right now. I’m in tears just thinking about it…
I think you could also match the page themes to the pictures a little more than I did. Another reason to pick the pictures first next time.
But the scale here is also great for using up scraps and odd leftovers that don’t seem to fit a bigger project. I was also going to decorate the rings with more ribbon but Mr. Fix-It told me not to overdo it and he thought it was fine just plain. I think I might try one of these for the kids at half the size.
