Carhartt to the Rescue…Thanksgiving Travel Adventures
So, everyone knows our kiddos are the Carhartt Crew, right? The stuff keeps up with them when nothing else can! Our munchkins have been wearing and passing down brown, hooded Carhartt coats since the Ladybug was in a size 2T and we have enough $8 winter hats to outfit all farm visitors at chore time. {smile}
Well, over the holiday weekend, we had yet another reason to sing their praises (if you’re squeamish, you might not want to read this)…
Speedracer gets carsick.
Like, wake up from a sound sleep and spew all over himself, carsick.
Yeah, I know, GROSS!
This time, while traveling home from holiday visits we were only an hour from home and had stopped for gas. Speedracer woke up, covered his mouth, and yakked his whole dinner up between his fingers, into his lap. Luckily, guess what was covering his lap like a little throw blanket…
Yep, his trusty, tough-as-nails, stand up to anything, already survived two farm kids so far, Carhartt coat.
I hopped out of the car, pulled up the hood and sleeves to create a bowl, and caught just about every speck of mess. Well, the greater part anyway. Both the Ladybug sitting next to him (who leaped out and rushed into the convenience store to tell Mr. Fix-It to buy baby wipes, pronto!) and Speedy the pillow pet turtle were spared. Thankfully the outside was facing up and the lining was over his knees.
After getting him out of the car, we shook out the worst of it (and believe me, the worst of it was pretty bad!) and wiped it on the grass, then balled it up carefully and tied it in a plastic bag to get home. (One of the things they don’t tell you in the pregnancy books–always, always, always carry a stash of ziploc bags with you! Welcome to life with kids!) We changed him to his pjs for the rest of the trip and threw everything in the wash as soon as we got home. And guess what…
He’s off to school in his coat this morning. Good as new. Like nothing ever happened.
In the meantime…
Molly’s new calf is doing just fine in the cold weather.
The chickens finally seemed to be trained to go back to the house at night again since we moved the coop.
And Tag seems to be adjusting to the rest of the flock. The allergy discharge from his noses seems to be clearing up, although some of the sinus swelling seems to be sticking around and he can’t sneak up on anyone because every third or fourth breath he sounds like Darth Vader.
How was your holiday weekend?
We got our outside Christmas decorations put up–which has to be a record for us! The kiddos are thrilled and pestering me about the inside decorations already too. {smile} One step at a time!
I’ve also just about wrapped up our holiday shopping–although I did not go out on Black Friday–and that includes all the nieces and nephews and our two family birthdays (the Cowboy in December and Speedracer in January).

See where I’m sharing this week…
While my kids don’t get carsick, 1 trip with a child who caught the stomach bug mid trip made me always have a bag with plastic bags, paper towels, a towel, ziploc baggies and wipes. Whew!!
Yes, I have a bag I try to keep stocked with a “medicine cabinet,” change of clothes, handiwipes and sanitizer, etc in the vehicle I drive daily. But it didn’t make it to the other vehicle for our trip! Ugh! Now the hubs knows why I keep it around even though it takes up valuable leg room. 🙂
