Feeding Sheep and Cleaning Cabinets…the Daily Farm Adventures
Winter’s not over, but around here the snow is. For the moment. (I heard there might be even more on the way!) Rather than face the muck in the yard at the moment, I thought I would share a few more lovely, white, snow pictures! Snow makes everything look so fresh and clean…at least for the first few days!

The Cowboy and Penny running to let the chickens out. You can lead a chicken to an open door, but you can’t make them go out! They were having none of it–we hardly saw them for three days.
Other than having to water bucket-by-bucket, there wasn’t much change to the daily chore routine around here. Feed and water in the morning. Gather eggs. Feed and water in the evening. Gather eggs.

Everyone did their share…except for Penny. She just wanted everyone do their share! {smile}
Except that it took an extra half hour to get everyone bundled up before they went out. My boys have been known to head out to chores in their boots and diaper if I wasn’t looking!

Speedracer doesn’t have many specific outside chores right now. He’s just the general helper.
And the Cowboy has a tendency to get distracted when his chores are done and run off to play without letting me know. Normally, I figure he’s fine, but with the cold I spent a lot of time trying to keep better tabs on him–and it was a challenge. He can cover a lot of ground quickly when he’s motivated {smile} and I did not feel up to slogging across the whole farm looking for him. We’ve had a lot of talks about this the last few days.

Once we had some trails broke through, it was that much easier to get things done.
The sheep act like nothing’s changed and just come charging to the feed trough twice a day…or any time they see a bucket…or any time someone pulls in the driveway (because we usually feed right after getting home in the evening)…and occasionally any time we step out on the porch, depending on what time they think it is.

They wore a trail from the barn to the feed trough pretty quickly.
I’m also really excited to see that the days are definitely getting longer. I mean, clearly they do after December 21st, but it’s noticeable now. The winter cold doesn’t bother me nearly as much as the winter dark does. It’s hard when you work outside the home and it’s dark when you get up, barely light when you leave, and definitely dark when you get home.

We’ve been taking fresh scraps out to the chickens pretty often…trying to tempt them out of the house.
Now we’re just doing some more New Year organizing and waiting for lambs. I think we’ve made good use of our extra time off lately.
We’ve cleaned and sorted through the pantry, fridge, and freezers, and all the kitchen cabinets (including my dreaded tupperware cabinet!) and the medicine cabinet (which is actually in the kitchen). I’ve sorted through all the kiddos clothes and got us back to our simplified wardrobes…whew, what a relief! The piles of new clothes from Christmas were making a mess upstairs!
The Ladybug even got on-board and I helped her sort through the endless piles of “important stuff” around her room. We’ll be doing a little thrifting and Pinterest-searching for shelving ideas for her and she’s got a bedroom painting project looming.
How’s the start of February looking at your place?
See where I’m sharing this week…
