We’ve Been Busy, as Usual…the Daily Farm Adventures {77}
Ok, I haven’t written in a while, but I’ve had my hands full to overflowing. (And I needed a break.)
We’ve been busy with this…
And this…
And this…
And this…
And this…
But I’m working my way back. I’m going back to our series on the Dollars and Cents of Starting a Small Farm, and I’ve got a fun Spring newsletter full of great spring tips, treats, and farm happening in the works. (Peep cakes, anyone?) {smile}
The Pixie Chicken is all settled into the new chicken house with the other ladies and we got two fresh brown eggs again this morning–after everyone decided to go on strike for the winter! Molly had a new calf a few weeks ago and it’s another boy. Do you know, she’s always had boys? Every one of her calves has been a bull. We’d keep a heifer to add to the herd, if she would have one! {smile}
We’re almost through lambing season this year, and boy it’s been a rough one! We encountered more trouble this year than the last couple years put together! Now that we’re almost done, I can see that I had gotten used to a lot of excitement but very little “real” trouble. On one hand I’m grateful to see how far we’ve come, to know that we’ve come so far this much trouble is highly unusual, and that even with all the trouble we did have we were able to handle it and we still have 12 healthy lambs on the ground (with 2 more mommas still expecting). But on the other hand, we lost several lambs this year and had to do an emergency delivery procedure which still gives me the shakes when I think about it. Thank goodness for Mr. Fix-It…cool as a cucumber!
…Deep breath…
The snow is gone and spring is in the air. I’m sure at this time of year there’s a lot more mud in my future, but for now we’re enjoy the half-way decent weather, puppy kisses, and watching the grass grow.
How are you doing this almost spring day?!
