Dirt, Dogs, and Raising Warriors…the Daily Farm Adventures {91}
Ok, ok, I’m a terrible blogger. I just get wrapped up in living life sometimes and forget to go and write about it! {smile} I miss writing, but not so much that I’d give up the moments I had out in the real world instead of at the computer. Then I’ll have some crazy moment that takes me back to a post I remember writing (like this one) and I go hunt it up, read it, and think, “hmm, I should get back to writing–I have things to say!”
So here I am!
Enjoying the Fall with my favorite people…
We still have a nice hour of daylight time when I get home from work to get out in the sunshine together. It will probably be gone next week after daylight savings, but we’ve been making the most of it.
After such a long day at work or school, everyone needs some fresh air.
Usually I prefer to walk the dogs myself–and have some quiet un-wind time to transition from adult-work-serious, to kids-homework-dinner-chaos. But the weather is too nice for the crew to be cooped up.
Of course, having to add 3 baths, every day, to our schedule gets a little tiresome. But, what is farm life, if not dirt?
The weekday chores are at a minimum right now, because there’s still grass. We just check water buckets, feed the chickens, and walk the dogs. Everything else waits until the weekend.
And we all need time that is “do nothing” time. Time to play. Time to yell and run. Time to chase each other with stick-swords, climb hay bales, and paint the plum tree with green sheep-marking spray. (Ok, I would have put a stop to that one if I’d caught them at it!)
Time to pretend we are warriors, fighters, soldiers, knights and kings, heroes…
Because eventually we have to go back to the regular routine.
And when we do, I would prefer if Coal was too tired to steal my socks. {smile}
Sometimes I miss more quiet time, and sometimes I think it’s overrated. As much as I love a couch, a book, and a cup of coffee, if I had to miss these moments, I don’t think I would give them up. They’ll be gone all by themselves before I know it anyway!
How’s your weekend looking? Be sure to stop by on Sunday for the Simple Sunday link party–we’re going to be focusing on some great crock-pot ideas for the next week. As a working momma, that’s a big helper in my kitchen!
