Another Four Paws…the Daily Farm Adventures {115}
You know what they say…”Cattle dogs are like chips, you can’t have just one!”
So, THIS happened over the weekend…
Let’s just skip the hows and whys and get right to the puppy breath, because this face…
We named her Red. (Creative, I know.) The kiddos love the name and hated everything else I suggested.
She’s a purebred cattle dog, just like Coal. But she’s the red color, where he is considered “blue.” She’s actually a color mix, being mostly red, but some blue that makes her mask and spots darker than a true red would be.
He’s not quite sure what to make of her yet.
They’re getting the hang of each other, but he is very possessive of me–my space, my lap, my feet, my hands, my voice, and his toys. And she’s kinda feisty (typical cattle dog!) so she doesn’t necessarily heed his first warning. I do, though, and correct him immediately. He’s starting to understand and he’s even brought the outside toys to her a couple times and enticed her to play tug-of-war with him–as long as I stay back out of the way.
Penny, of course, couldn’t care less.
And the crew is obsessed with her for the moment. It will pass. It always does. The first week everyone is all about the puppy. Week 2, it starts to fade. By week 3, only the Ladybug is hanging in there, and then only if she gets to do something “fun” like walk the dog, play with the dog, or brush the dog, and only if it doesn’t stop her from going out with her youth group. {smile}
That’s ok. I got this. As Mr. Fix-It said, “Well, now you have two annoying shadows tripping you up every time you walk across the room.”
Yes. Yes, I do.
Are you a dog or cat person? Or a no-animals-in-the-house person? Or a bird and lizard person? I’m talking pets, not farm animals, this time. I used to have birds and cats too, but now I’m only ok with animals in the house that use the bathroom outside the house. No cleaning boxes, cages, or tanks for me right now. I’ve got my hands full cleaning up after the munchkins. After 5 months old, the dogs are the least messy part of this whole operation! {smile}
