Lambs At Play…the Daily Farm Adventures {121}
Feeding time for mommas is when the lambs get to run wild and play together. Every evening it’s like a crazy lamb party out there! Their mommas are all head-down in the trough and they are running around wondering what to do. Remember that feisty ewe lamb from Bug-Eyes last Thursday? She might be smaller, but she is a busy little thing!
That big black lamb is a bit of a mommas-boy.
The little gray is quite spunky.
At this age any time the lambs cry, their momma will leave the trough to come find them and check on them. In a few weeks, the ewes will just ignore them crying to eat. That’s the point at which you’ll get “bummer lambs” running up behind them to sneak a drink from someone other than their momma.
But our chunky black first born here started crying as soon as his momma left, so she came back and hustled him off. The little gray ewe lamb galloped around them for the rest of feeding time, skipping and hopping around until she started getting head-butts from the other mother.
It kinda reminded me of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer not being able to play with the other deer. But she’ll have plenty of playmates coming up soon.
Watching for more lambs is most of our farm chores right now {smile}, how about you?
I love lambing time 🙂 It is lovely to see your farm
Thank you! It’s an exciting time on the farm!
