Easy DIY Luggage Tags

Easy DIY Luggage Tags from chipboard and scrapbook paper via Walking in High Cotton

As I wrote last week with our Summer Camp Packing lists (did you download your FREE copy?) our kiddos have been adventuring away from home a lot this summer. They visited my sister, my mother-in-law, and now church camp. This is Speedracer’s first year at church camp and we’ve developed several little rites of passage for the first year. One is that they get their first toiletry bag (or shaving kit bag for the boys) and one is that they get their personalized luggage tags. This is an easy and … Continue Reading…

Walking in High Cotton Posted on May 12, 2010 by Jamie OliverSeptember 8, 2019 2

The internet has taken crafting to a whole new level for the amateur like myself.  There as so many wonderful artists and crafters out there blogging or posting their work for everyone to admire and be inspired by.  And so many great communities you can join to chat about ideas, inspirations, or challenge each other to create. Here’s a card I made that was inspired by one from Carrie Gaskin’s blog Artistic Avenger… You can see her card here.  And it would be so easy to manipulate the colors to … Continue Reading…

Walking in High Cotton Posted on May 26, 2010 by Jamie OliverSeptember 8, 2019 3

Welcome to another guest post from my own personal circle of inspiration.  Meet my Aunt Annie (we pronounce it “ant”–and we like it that way!), but you can call her Ann.  Or “The Favorite”.  She answers to both. She can sew, knit, crochet, quilt, decorate, and sling a hot glue gun like nobody’s business.  She’s taught me a lot of what I know about fabric manipulations and put up with my drop-stitching, left-handedness while teaching me to crochet.  I would love to take credit for introducing her to papercrafting and … Continue Reading…

Walking in High Cotton Posted on June 2, 2010 by Jamie OliverSeptember 8, 2019

Today I’d like to touch on a favorite/hated topic of anyone that crafts–ORGANIZATION. It can be fun. It can be beautiful. It can be creative. It can be frustrating! But it’s totally essential.  Crafting breeds more crafting, and more crafting, and more crafting.  You start out making cards, then you’re scrapbooking, then you’re making gift boxes and party favors and teacher appreciation gifts…next thing you know you’re decoupaging serving trays (looking for my first Mod Podge project next Wednesday!) crocheting doll blankets and sewing tooth pillows.  And that doesn’t even … Continue Reading…

Walking in High Cotton Posted on June 23, 2010 by Jamie OliverSeptember 8, 2019 1

I know I’ve taken a break from crafty posts for a few weeks.  If I’m not posting, it’s probably because I haven’t had time to do any crafting either.  I’ve got a ton of 1/2 finished stuff piled up around my “workshop.”  But my crafty-buddy the Dirt Diva and I have been chatting about the new Stampin’ Up! catalog coming out any day now (She gave me a sneak peek yesterday and–YEAH!  I can’t wait!  It looks awesome!) and I got inspired to DO SOMETHING.   So I made this … Continue Reading…

Walking in High Cotton Posted on August 25, 2010 by Jamie OliverSeptember 8, 2019 2

So often I run out of time for handcrafting anything.  My family is my 1st, #1, top-of-the-list priority, my job and the farm are my 2nd priority (priorities?), and managing my household is my 3rd priority.  And if I manage to run into a day with 36 hours instead of 24, my hobbies (crafting, reading, writing) are my 4th priority.  So, while my mother-heart hates Back-to-School time, I do love it when my hobby happens to magically align with my #1 priority and I have something crafty to post! A … Continue Reading…

Wednesday Windings 9/1/2010…

Walking in High Cotton Posted on September 1, 2010 by Jamie OliverSeptember 8, 2019

Over the weekend I was quite inspired, so I should have plenty of fuel for crafty posts over the next couple weeks.  But scrapbooking from scratch is so much more involved (and intimidating!) than most of my other papercrafting projects that I usually warm up with a couple of cards first. So here’s a couple cards with the new Stampin’ Up! In Colors. This one is a 5 x 5 card, and the patterned paper does most of the design work.  I really, really love that Poppy Parade color–not quite … Continue Reading…

Emotional Scrapbooking..Wednesday Windings Link Up 02/09/2011

Walking in High Cotton Posted on February 9, 2011 by Jamie OliverSeptember 8, 2019 8

Welcome to Wednesday Windings! Cardmaking, scrapbooking, nursery painting, bookcase building…wherever the creativity takes us!  Hope you’ll link up one of your recent projects and visit some other inspiration from the list on the left sidebar! I admit to being a little intimidated by scrapbooking. Ok, ok, a lot intimidated. That 12 x 12 page just seems huge to me. And a double page layout? 2 feet of blank page to fill? Wow, I can’t even fathom it. I started with cardmaking and it felt much less intimidating. I mean, 4 … Continue Reading…

A Memory Journal…Wednesday Windings 03/09/2011 {LINK UP!}

Walking in High Cotton Posted on March 9, 2011 by Jamie OliverSeptember 8, 2019 6

It’s Wednesday Windings again, so I hope you’ll link up over on the left sidebar and share what you’ve been crafting up lately with us. Any recent artsy, crafty, or creative thinking post is welcome! Last week I shared that I’ve enrolled in an on-line scrapbooking class to help me organize my thoughts, memories, and get a little (more) therapy while making an Album of Remembrance about my parents. I was just so moved by the instructors course description of how to go through processing the whole jumbled mess of … Continue Reading…

Walking in High Cotton Posted on October 6, 2010 by Jamie OliverSeptember 8, 2019 2

I got the chance to go to a Close to My Heart card crop over the weekend and make a bunch of Halloween and Fall cards with a bunch of other crafty ladies. I discovered that I’m not a fan of clear cards.  They look good, but there’s three times as much work involved in hiding all the “working parts” of the card. And I got a great feel for using purple as a Halloween color as well as the standard orange and black (which is still a favorite of … Continue Reading…

Some Christmas Cards and Tags…Wednesday Windings 1/05/2011

Walking in High Cotton Posted on January 5, 2011 by Jamie OliverSeptember 8, 2019 5

I have a couple Christmas projects to post today as a holiday wrap up. The Cowboy’s cow head roping dummy thing and the Ladybug’s doll bed didn’t get wrapped on Christmas Eve. Really, we just couldn’t figure out how without wasting a lot of time and paper. So I made a couple gift tags from some leftover chipboard I had from a mini album.  They were about 3 by 4.5 inches each. I used some really cute western scrapbooking stickers I got in a bargain bin for a $1 on the … Continue Reading…

Wednesday Windings 01/19/2011…Spreading the Inspiration

Walking in High Cotton Posted on January 19, 2011 by Jamie OliverSeptember 8, 2019 11

Hello! Happy Wednesday and welcome to the first link-up at Walkin’ in High Cotton! I’m so excited to have figured this out (I hope), but if it doesn’t work, just bare with me (and email me!) and I’ll see what I can do. If you’re still brand new to all this stuff (like me!) here’s how it works… Wednesday Windings is about all the different forms of creativity that make up our lives. In my case it sort of started with card making, which turned into scrapbooking, then general papercrafting, … Continue Reading…

My First Mini Album Finished! Wednesday Windings 06/08/2011

Walking in High Cotton Posted on June 8, 2011 by Jamie OliverSeptember 8, 2019 8

I’m so excited! I finished my first mini album and it’s gone off to it’s much loved recipient. Of course, now I have about 10,000 ideas for the next one running through my head too! Success breeds…motivation, I guess. I shared about working on it a few weeks ago, and now it’s all finished up! (Ok, I just checked out that link and it was a little bit further back then I remembered. Ok, ok, I’ll admit it–I’m slow. And easily distracted.) I’m really happy with how it turned out, … Continue Reading…

Scrapbooking My Cowboy…Wednesday Windings 05/11/2011

Walking in High Cotton Posted on May 11, 2011 by Jamie OliverSeptember 8, 2019 5

Soooo…what’s the worst thing that can happen when you reach for your camera? Dead. Dead as a doornail. Not even a blinking light to give me hope. The good news? There was no battery in it. The battery was out because it needed to be recharged. Nothings actually wrong with the camera. Oh, thank goodness! Bad news? The battery was not on the charger. Yep, it’s still dead. Dead as a doornail. (Whatever that means…) More good news? I’ve got a couple pictures for today and a bunch of pictures … Continue Reading…

Roots and Wings and Tears…Wednesday Windings {LINK UP} 03/23/2011

Walking in High Cotton Posted on March 23, 2011 by Jamie OliverSeptember 8, 2019 3

Welcome to Wednesday Windings! I hope you like crafting, scrapbooking, card making, painting, building, writing, or creating–that’s what Wednesdays are all about around here.  Feel free to post about your recent projects in the comments or share a link to a recent creative post over on the left sidebar so we can all check it out! I’ve been busy on my remembrance album journey–although I don’t have much of an album yet. I’ve been sorting through pictures and scribbling my little fingers off in my journal.     Can I … Continue Reading…
