Walking in High Cotton Posted on May 26, 2017 by JamieMay 26, 2017
Quest for Truth sci-fi series for middle graders by Brock Eastman--A Review and Giveaway! via Walking in High Cotton

We’ve continued with our slow, steady, and FUN family Astronomy study this month. So far we’ve already seen and documented several moon phases including a full moon and a new moon; visible Jupiter; visible Mercury, and learned to recognize the Big and Little Dipper.  We’ve also watched several space and sci-fi movies as a family, including a special at-home family movie night presentation of Rogue One (which my kiddos hadn’t seen yet) and a splurge on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 in the theater. We’ve been keeping a list of … Continue Reading…

Holiday Plans in Full Swing

Walking in High Cotton Posted on November 19, 2012 by JamieNovember 19, 2012 1

The month of November has been really busy for us. We’ve had company, or been out-of-town every single weekend so far. And, of course, we’re heading out-of-town for Thanksgiving as well. I’m making Thanksgiving plans, but my mind is already on Christmas too!  (And we have a couple birthday’s in December and January too!) Mr. Fix-It and I have been talking in “parent code” a lot lately. You know, the way you replace every couple words with “you know, hmm” and wiggle your eyebrows a lot because little pitchers have … Continue Reading…

Giving Thanks Challenge, Week 3

Walking in High Cotton Posted on November 15, 2012 by JamieNovember 15, 2012 2

How is it the 3rd week of November already?!! Time is just flying by! November is such a busy month, I’ve been so blessed to try and slow down and focus on being thankful and counting my blessings rather than being busy and frantic about the holidays and the coming winter. (Winter = lots of extra work, usually in the dark, on the farm.) Have you been able to slow down and be grateful this month? I know a lot of my readers have been challenged this month with storms … Continue Reading…

Busy Mom’s Dinner On-the-Go Solution {Easy Lunchbox Giveaway!!}

Walking in High Cotton Posted on November 14, 2012 by JamieNovember 14, 2012 10

I work. I mother. I farm. I keep house. (HaHaHa!) It’s fair to say we stay pretty busy during the school/work week. Last year I had finally worked out a dinner plan that managed to get us to prayer meeting on Wednesdays without resorting to fast food every single week (which wasn’t good for our budget or our stomachs!). We called it the frozen-pizza-every-Wednesday plan. Then we started soccer and a new school, and we weren’t home long enough to cook pizza and we were out of the house 3 … Continue Reading…

That Bucket List Thing

Walking in High Cotton Posted on July 30, 2012 by JamieJuly 30, 2012

Happy Monday! How was your weekend? Ours was lovely, in a sort of perfectly normal, everything-as-usual, sort of way. We picked up the kiddos from Mimi on Saturday, and stopped at an antique tractor museum (I’ll post more about that tomorrow!) and then came home and everything was just about the way it always is. Except everyone was really tired. The Ladybug immediately noticed that we had changed one of the pictures on the living room wall from our childless antiquing adventures last Sunday. They also noticed that I had … Continue Reading…

I Call My Style “Cardigan”

Walking in High Cotton Posted on May 8, 2012 by JamieMay 8, 2012

I talked about Shari Braendel’s Good Girls Don’t Have to Dress Bad style guide yesterday. I also mentioned that I’m still mulling over what my “style” really is.  Today I’m over at Homemaker’s Challenge talking about ways to help define your own style (Pinterest, anyone?!) and pinpoint exactly what being “put together” means for you. As Shari points out, “The key is not to look bigger or smaller when you dress; the key is to look like you know what you’re doing.” (READ MORE….) {And be sure to visit yesterday’s post … Continue Reading…

Good Girls Don’t Have to Dress Bad Review {and GIVEAWAY}

Walking in High Cotton Posted on May 7, 2012 by JamieMay 7, 2012 32

Remember my little stack of reading for the year? Well, I’m making my way through it-although I’ve been a little derailed by all the materials from the 2:1 Conference lately!  I did finish Shari Braendel’s Good Girls Don’t Have to Dress Bad back in February, though, and I’ve been rather excited to be using her advice the last couple months. I love this book for numerous reasons, but there’s two main ones I’d like to talk about. First, she takes a biblical stand on modesty. Both the preface of the book … Continue Reading…

Children’s Book Review and GIVEAWAY!!

Walking in High Cotton Posted on January 7, 2011 by JamieJanuary 10, 2011 32

I’ve recently had the opportunity to review the God Gave Us So Much limited edition 3-book Treasury by Lisa Tawn Bergren.  (**I received a free copy of this book to review.**) We were already familiar with Little Cub, the polar bear, from the stories God Gave Us You and God Gave Us Two-which we love. This Treasury includes 3 new stories with Little Cub and her family; God Gave Us the World, God Gave Us Love, and God Gave us Heaven. As the titles imply, these are solidly Christian-based children’s … Continue Reading…
