Roots and Wings and Tears…Wednesday Windings {LINK UP} 03/23/2011

Walking in High Cotton Posted on March 23, 2011 by Jamie OliverSeptember 8, 2019 3

Welcome to Wednesday Windings! I hope you like crafting, scrapbooking, card making, painting, building, writing, or creating–that’s what Wednesdays are all about around here.  Feel free to post about your recent projects in the comments or share a link to a recent creative post over on the left sidebar so we can all check it out! I’ve been busy on my remembrance album journey–although I don’t have much of an album yet. I’ve been sorting through pictures and scribbling my little fingers off in my journal.     Can I … Continue Reading…

A Proverbs 31 Sewing Project…Wednesday Windings 04/20/2011

Walking in High Cotton Posted on April 20, 2011 by Jamie OliverSeptember 8, 2019 7

So, it’s Wednesday and I must admit, I’m little ambivalent towards my Wednesday Windings {LINK UP} at the moment. Hosting a link up takes quite a bit of set-up, promotion and commitment–if you want it to be successful, anyway. Believe me, I’ve learned a lot trying this little venture out! And while I love crafting and all the great ladies I’ve met while working on it, there’s a lot of already great craft link ups out there. I mean really great one. Ones with 100s of awesome craft projects every … Continue Reading…

My First Mini Album Finished! Wednesday Windings 06/08/2011

Walking in High Cotton Posted on June 8, 2011 by Jamie OliverSeptember 8, 2019 8

I’m so excited! I finished my first mini album and it’s gone off to it’s much loved recipient. Of course, now I have about 10,000 ideas for the next one running through my head too! Success breeds…motivation, I guess. I shared about working on it a few weeks ago, and now it’s all finished up! (Ok, I just checked out that link and it was a little bit further back then I remembered. Ok, ok, I’ll admit it–I’m slow. And easily distracted.) I’m really happy with how it turned out, … Continue Reading…

Sock Snakes and Paper Penguins

Walking in High Cotton Posted on June 24, 2011 by Jamie OliverSeptember 8, 2019 6

My adventures with being SuperMomma this week are almost over! (Ha!) I’ve done fleece bats, sock snakes, paper penguins, and I’ve got to come up with 3 fish by 5 pm this evening, before I put my cape away for a while. To be serious for a moment, VBS ends tonight and while the kids have had a great time, it’s been a long week. We get up early around here and now they’ve been staying up late too. They’re tired. And I know all the amazing VBS workers at church … Continue Reading…

Scrapbooking My Cowboy…Wednesday Windings 05/11/2011

Walking in High Cotton Posted on May 11, 2011 by Jamie OliverSeptember 8, 2019 5

Soooo…what’s the worst thing that can happen when you reach for your camera? Dead. Dead as a doornail. Not even a blinking light to give me hope. The good news? There was no battery in it. The battery was out because it needed to be recharged. Nothings actually wrong with the camera. Oh, thank goodness! Bad news? The battery was not on the charger. Yep, it’s still dead. Dead as a doornail. (Whatever that means…) More good news? I’ve got a couple pictures for today and a bunch of pictures … Continue Reading…

Notecard Sets…Wednesday Windings 09/21/2011

Walking in High Cotton Posted on September 21, 2011 by Jamie OliverSeptember 8, 2019 2

I’ve been pretty busy lately getting ready for my first craft show in October.  (So excited!!) Unfortunately, the Fresh blog was also infected with the malware problem I had recently over here at High Cotton and it’s a mess right now and taking a lot of my time to sort out. (But the Storefront is still up and as full of fresh, funky, fun as ever!) But I’ve been splitting time between sewing and papercrafting. Notice all the Wisteria purple?! I’m still crazy about that new color and about the … Continue Reading…

Gift Tags

Walking in High Cotton Posted on September 28, 2011 by Jamie OliverSeptember 8, 2019 5

This weekend I sat down to finish up some covered journals and decided that the scraps would make some lovely gift tags. I got a little carried away and ended up just going and going even when I ran out of scraps and starting in on brand new paper. I liked the way the scraps came together so well, I’ve got a couple more journals in progress using the same combinations!  The blue ones are my favorites right now. I’ve also been using glitter a lot. I like the way … Continue Reading…

Sewing Goldfish Smiles…Wednesday Windings 06/29/2011

Walking in High Cotton Posted on June 29, 2011 by Jamie OliverSeptember 8, 2019 4

Last week I detailed my VBS adventures with bats, snakes and penguins, and the grand finale on Friday was fish. Yep, fish. Friday at lunch my totally not-artistic self hand-drew a pattern for goldfish and whipped them together. I’ve discovered that there’s a simplicity of scale involved in sewing. Smaller is not always better because it makes it hard to turn inside out, stuff, or edge. There’s a perfect size that’s not too big and not too small… I cut some ribbon for a handle and tucked that in between … Continue Reading…

Organizing Kid Craft Supplies…Wednesday Windings 07/13/2011

Walking in High Cotton Posted on July 13, 2011 by Jamie OliverSeptember 8, 2019 7

This weekend while I was working on a couple new items for the Store (have you seen the new Bold Blooms totes, by the way? love that fabric–wish I had ordered more!), the kids got out their own craft stuff and started creating too. How do you organize kid craft supplies? Their stuff can get as out-of-control as my stuff! But we’ve hit on a few things that really work for us. First things first–they don’t get them out without permission! That’s the only way to control the mess. They … Continue Reading…

Craft Interupted…Wednesday Windings 07/20/2011

Walking in High Cotton Posted on July 20, 2011 by Jamie OliverSeptember 8, 2019 9

Normally I love using Wednesdays to show you some new creative venture I’ve been working on. I have been working on stuff (oh boy, have I been working on stuff!) but I ran into a bit of a problem last night. I’m what I like to fondly title a “Messy Creative.” (Mr. Fix-It calls it something else.) Meaning I can’t stop in the middle of my creative flow  to clean up and put stuff away just because I’m not using it at the moment. I just shove it to the … Continue Reading…

Cardmaking…Wednesday Windings 09/14/2011

Walking in High Cotton Posted on September 14, 2011 by Jamie OliverSeptember 8, 2019 1

With the start of the school year, I’m back to being elbow deep in my papercrafting supplies again. I’ve got cards for teachers, notes for lunchboxes, and the holidays coming up fast too! I wish I could say that I’m creating a stockpile, but really everything I’ve gotten done this week is already spoken for! {sigh}  That’s just the way it goes. At least it means there’s a purpose to my hobby! I’m enjoying the new Stampin’ Up! colors (ok, ok, mostly that lavender Wisteria!) and I love their vintage … Continue Reading…

Winter Babies…Blessed Life Design Review

Walking in High Cotton Posted on October 12, 2011 by Jamie OliverSeptember 8, 2019 2

Both of my little boys were winter babies, one in December and one in January. So I spend the whole winter trying to convince Mr. Fix-It that their baby hats were necessary even if they were sort of…baby-ish. We had them stashed everywhere and wore a couple almost out. My favorite was a hand-knit, light yellow one we got from the hospital with Speedracer. I still have it stashed away for his baby book someday. I’m always on the hunt for cute baby hats for winter baby gifts–useful and cute … Continue Reading…

Craft Kids

Walking in High Cotton Posted on November 9, 2011 by Jamie OliverSeptember 8, 2019 6

This weekend was pretty busy, but Sunday I let the kids go ahead and do some crafting at the dining room table while I was cleaning and running back and forth with customers at the farm. The kiddos got some stickers and spending money from Mimi and Papa (Mr. Fix-It’s momma and step-father) in a surprise package a few days ago. Some of their money goes straight into the bank or their 527s, but some of it they get to keep in their salsa-turned-money jars as spending money. I love … Continue Reading…

Smashbook Journaling

Walking in High Cotton Posted on February 13, 2013 by Jamie OliverSeptember 8, 2019 2
Smashbook Journaling at Walking in High Cotton

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I had tried out some Smashbook supplies for scrapbook journaling and was really enjoying them. Actually, I’m kinda crazy about it. Since New Years I’ve already almost filled one journal. I think it’s a case were I’m not completely sure if it’s the medium or just that I was in the right mindset. But I’ve been able to really throw off my normal expectations about scrapbook page design and that dreaded need for chronology and just do it. It’s been a very personal … Continue Reading…
