5 Signs You’re NOT Ready for Marriage

Walking in High Cotton Posted on April 10, 2014 by Jamie OliverMay 10, 2017 13
Raising our daughters to be WIVES, not BRIDES. 5 Signs Your NOT Ready for #Marriage via www.walkinginhighcotton.net What to think about to GET READY.

Our personal circle has just broken out in a rash of weddings and separations lately. (Ironic how we see them in equal measure these days.) I’ve also been asked to do some special Spring photography projects this year (thrilled to be asked, but so anxious to do well!). So I’ve been on Pinterest. A lot. {smile} And I am overwhelmed by the…craziness. 5 hours do to wedding day hair and makeup? Engagement photos, save the date photos, wedding party photos, thank you card photos, 1st anniversary photos…I even read one … Continue Reading…

Resting in the Quiet

Walking in High Cotton Posted on December 12, 2013 by Jamie OliverDecember 12, 2013

I don’t know that I’ve really mentioned it this year, but Mr. Fix-It and I celebrated our 12th anniversary last week.  Normally I would have written something and maybe posted some pictures…but this year I don’t have as much to say. This year, 12 seems like a big number. This year, I look around and there’s not a lot of people around us in our age group that reached that number. Or that reached that number happily. Or that reached that number honorably. This year, I look at us and … Continue Reading…

Purging Bitterness

Walking in High Cotton Posted on February 13, 2012 by Jamie OliverFebruary 13, 2012 3

Well, this past weekend will not be one for the scrapbooks. And it certainly won’t go down on our list of romantic alone time. As a matter of fact, after this blog post, I might try to forget it even ever happened… Marriage isn’t all it’s cracked up to be in the Disney movies. I even hesitate to call marriage a “relationship” because it’s so much more beyond how people use that term these days. Someone the other day was tell me that their 12 yr old daughter was in … Continue Reading…

A Sacred History

Walking in High Cotton Posted on May 10, 2011 by Jamie OliverMay 10, 2011 10

Can I just say that I’m crushed by the news of Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger separating ? Crushed. And no, it’s not just because she’s part of the Kennedy’s Camelot that meant so much to my mom (and I suppose bled over to me by osmosis). And no, it’s not just because I was raised on Arnold Schwarzenegger action movie–you know the “good” ones from the 80s and 90s.  (If I admitted that I actually have the soundtrack to Conan the Barbarian in my possession would you think I … Continue Reading…

Thankful on a Thursday 12/01/2010…

Walking in High Cotton Posted on December 2, 2010 by Jamie OliverDecember 2, 2010 3

Oh my, I feel like my verbal cup runneth over today!  I have so much I would love to say.  But first, thank you for all the anniversary wishes! We had a nice evening…dinner, Christmas shopping, bookstore browsing, alone…although we are at the parenting stage where sometimes we find ourselves so enjoying the amazing quiet when we’re together without the crew that we forget to talk to each other!  But there’s an amazing peace in those moments too. I am thankful for my Mr. Fix-It.  He works so very hard … Continue Reading…

The 5 Love Languages

Walking in High Cotton Posted on May 7, 2010 by Jamie OliverMay 7, 2010 2

After reading this article on Yahoo! about terrible Mother’s Day gifts, I thought this would be a great time to post about the 5 Love Languages–in case you need to run back to the store before Sunday! The 5 Love Languages is a book by Dr. Gary Chapman  which I highly, highly recommend.  However, if you really, really, really aren’t a reader (and I know some of you, my dear friends and readers, who aren’t…Mr. Fix-it included)  the website is pretty cool too. His website sums it up like this… … Continue Reading…
