Wet Grass, Wet Dogs…the Daily Farm Adventures {92}

Walking in High Cotton Posted on August 3, 2015 by JamieMarch 30, 2020

There is just no way to express how WET the grass is at our place in the morning. The dew is so heavy it drips off our metal outbuildings. If you don’t wear muck boots you’re wet to the knees just going out to the chicken house and back. Dark trails run through the grass where you walk and sometimes when the dogs really take off running, water sprays up to either side as they race through. Since Coal is a lot shorter, he gets a lot wetter. {smile} Penny … Continue Reading…

Well, It’s Been Raining…the Daily Farm Adventures {86}

Walking in High Cotton Posted on June 5, 2015 by JamieMarch 30, 2020 2

That’s about all I can say. It was terribly dry and God has now sent us FOUR DAYS of rain. I’ve given up on the keeping the floors clean! But I found a few pictures to share with you from just before the clouds rolled in… Liberty the “barn cat” that lives on our front porch, shamelessly begging for some kitchen scraps… Henny Penny, our rascally free-ranger, also shamelessly begging for a treat on the front porch… And Molly, with her calf Bubba (he’s got a noticeable under-bite and as … Continue Reading…

In the Green Grass…the Daily Farm Adventures {87}

Walking in High Cotton Posted on June 22, 2015 by JamieMarch 30, 2020 1

This will be a busy week here at The Lowe Farm. We have Vacation Bible School at church and the kiddos will be in class while Mr. Fix-It and I will be teaching another class. So this weekend we prepped a week of meals, did a lot of laundry, and did a lot of camo painting to get ready. Have you been following us on Facebook or Instagram to see all the #vbsprep pictures? What we didn’t get done, was any mowing! It’s acceptable right now, but by the end of the … Continue Reading…

Farm Dogs and Egg-Eating Skunks…the Daily Farm Adventures {56}

Walking in High Cotton Posted on July 14, 2014 by JamieMarch 30, 2020 4

The Cowboy and I were up doing the chores a few weeks ago with the slowly fading odor of skunk whiffing on the humid morning breeze in the feed shed. Other than a quick look around, I didn’t think much of it. We know they’re around. Every month or so, some woodland creature gets too bold or some brave four-footed soul things he can take on a car and the stink will drift around the fields for a few days. {shrug} On to the work at hand. A few days later we’re … Continue Reading…

The Lamb Nanny…the Daily Farm Adventures {43}

Walking in High Cotton Posted on April 4, 2014 by JamieSeptember 8, 2019

We have a couple of smaller lambs that love to slip out through the gates and graze in the backyard. Pretty much every. single. day. I’ve started calling them “the gang of 5.” {smile} It’s not too big a deal since we still haven’t started our spring garden yet. (Hey, don’t judge! {smile}) They’re keeping the beds weeded and ready for us! And they aren’t old enough to wander very far from their Mommas–they always go back the way they came out, eventually, to nurse and nap. And Penny’s always … Continue Reading…

Washing Water Buckets, Trucks, and the Dog…the Daily Farm Adventures {50}

Walking in High Cotton Posted on April 28, 2014 by JamieSeptember 8, 2019

We had a lovely, sunny weekend again. So we rescued the garden from the weeds, and put in our first crop of beans and sugar snaps. We threw some sunflower seeds down in our flagpole garden and raked up the mulch, which the chickens immediately scratched back out again! We scrubbed water buckets (yes, pretty much every. single. weekend.) to get rid of the yellow film coating everything right now. Mr. Fix-It washed the Hemi too, since it was more orange than red, thanks to the dreaded yellow film. And … Continue Reading…

Red’s First Snow…Life with Coal the Cattle Dog

Walking in High Cotton Posted on January 13, 2017 by JamieMarch 18, 2017 2

“Life with Coal the Cattle Dog“…Hmmm…might have to update that somehow now that Red’s with us too. And she certainly doesn’t tolerate being ignored! Maybe “Life with Cattle Dog Chaos!” {smile} Since she’s been with us, we’ve had a false-alarm hurricane, and a for-real Nor’eastern with 3 days of downpours, but this past week was her first really cold snap. The snow started on Saturday and I was the first one up and moving around. Not the normal turn of events around here, but the kiddos have been staying up … Continue Reading…
