Using Sermon Notes for Kids in Church…Busy Book of Sermon Notes for Young Ladies Review

Walking in High Cotton Posted on February 1, 2017 by JamieMarch 18, 2017 1

Our church recently had First Fruits Revival (hear the messages), which means we were in church several evenings in a row. It was a good chance for the crew to start using their new Sermon Notes books that we got them for Christmas. I posted about them on Facebook after the first night and got a lot of questions, so I thought I’d share some more detail here. It can be a challenge to get children to behave in “big church” as we call the congregational service–as opposed to “children’s church” … Continue Reading…

I Am Ruth — Book Review

Walking in High Cotton Posted on September 18, 2013 by JamieMarch 9, 2017 1

I mentioned awhile back that I had joined the Moms of Master Books review team!We receive one brand-spankin’ new book each month from New Leaf Publishing Group to review (free of charge) and share with you. Last time we reviewed the Children’s Atlas of God’s World (which my kiddos are still in love with!). This time they sent a book that I think God intended more for my heart this month more than the munchkins (although my crew still can’t get over looking at the amazing photography!). This month I … Continue Reading…

Children's Atlas of God's World -- Book Review @ Walking in High Cotton {www.walkinginhighcotton.net}

As you know, we love to read together around here for family time and it’s one of our favorites ways to incorporate home learning even if we don’t formally “homeschool” together. So I was super excited to be invited to join the Moms of Master Books review team! We receive one brand-spankin’ new book a month from New Leaf Publishing Group to review (free of charge) and share with you. I won a copy of the Big Book of Earth and Sky at the Titus 2:1 Conference and my kiddos … Continue Reading…

Good Girls Don’t Have to Dress Bad Review {and GIVEAWAY}

Walking in High Cotton Posted on May 7, 2012 by JamieMay 7, 2012 32

Remember my little stack of reading for the year? Well, I’m making my way through it-although I’ve been a little derailed by all the materials from the 2:1 Conference lately!  I did finish Shari Braendel’s Good Girls Don’t Have to Dress Bad back in February, though, and I’ve been rather excited to be using her advice the last couple months. I love this book for numerous reasons, but there’s two main ones I’d like to talk about. First, she takes a biblical stand on modesty. Both the preface of the book … Continue Reading…

Building Homes, Building Arches

Walking in High Cotton Posted on March 27, 2012 by JamieMarch 12, 2017 4

I’m working my way through my little stack of books, and I’m working my way through our house, piece by piece, to get things in better order. I have a pretty good cleaning schedule and daily routine in place. But sometimes we just get off track and into maintenance mode rather than intentional homemaking and we’re just getting the minimum done every day. I’m not actually sure that one of my current books was on the list, but it’s been on my shelf for a while and I needed a … Continue Reading…

Winter Babies…Blessed Life Design Review

Walking in High Cotton Posted on October 12, 2011 by JamieSeptember 8, 2019 2

Both of my little boys were winter babies, one in December and one in January. So I spend the whole winter trying to convince Mr. Fix-It that their baby hats were necessary even if they were sort of…baby-ish. We had them stashed everywhere and wore a couple almost out. My favorite was a hand-knit, light yellow one we got from the hospital with Speedracer. I still have it stashed away for his baby book someday. I’m always on the hunt for cute baby hats for winter baby gifts–useful and cute … Continue Reading…
