Walking in High Cotton Posted on March 24, 2017 by Jamie OliverMarch 30, 2020 4

As I said on Monday, We have about 15 chickens in the chicken house right now and during peak egg season that amounts to about a dozen eggs a day! As we’ve downsized, marketing our eggs has been less of a priority and we’ve focused on using them up, or giving them away. Our last post talked about ways to save those eggs for your own family’s use. But farm fresh eggs can provide huge nutritional value to families that struggle to put food on the table! This post is about … Continue Reading…

Sending Love Projects

Walking in High Cotton Posted on February 4, 2014 by Jamie OliverSeptember 8, 2019 4

I used some of our recent snow day time to get help from the kiddos working on some “sending love” projects I’ve had on my To-Do list lately. We all made Get Well Soon cards for Mr. Fix-It’s grandma (we call her “Bea”) and printed off some pictures to send with them–because who wouldn’t feel cheered up seeing pictures of my adorable kiddos? {smile} I made a birthday card for my Grandma Koeller and sent it off. Grandma Koeller has come to visit us several times the last couple years … Continue Reading…

Resources for Learning about War Dogs and K9 Heroes {at Walking in High Cotton} #homeschooling #military #wardogs #heroes

Have you seen the movie Max, about a Marine Corps dog originally stationed in Afghanistan? As a boy momma, with an equally adventure and animal-loving girl, it was right up our alley for family movie night. We enjoyed it! A little predictable? Yes. But still a quality family movie. And it sparked a lot of interest from the crew about military working dogs. The boys are already crazy about anything military and the Ladybug loves everything dogs right now so this angle on their favorite topics was very fresh for them, … Continue Reading…

Walking in High Cotton Posted on February 11, 2014 by Jamie OliverJanuary 11, 2016 6
Learning by Adopting A Soldier {via Walking in High Cotton}

Real Life Homeschooling is about busy momma’s sharing ideas for how you can be intentional about teaching at home, even if it doesn’t look like traditional school-at-home. Last month I talked about how down time can play a key role in developing a supportive learning environment in your home. This month I’d like to talk about another activity our family participates in that has opened wide doors of learning for us…Adopting A Soldier. I mentioned our recent “adoption” the other day while taking about care packages. This is the third time … Continue Reading…

Thankful on a Thursday…Er…Friday! 11/12/2010

Walking in High Cotton Posted on November 11, 2010 by Jamie OliverNovember 12, 2010 1

This week I am thankful for having Veteran’s Day off–even from blogging! (Who says we can only have Thankful on a Thursday?)  🙂 I am thankful for our Veterans–including my own Grandpa and cousins.  And our active military as well!  Our family participates in Adopt-A-Platoon to send letters and care packages overseas to service members we “adopt” and I would encourage you to check it out.  It’s been very fulfilling for us and exciting and educational for the kiddos as well.  AnySoldier offers similar, one-time, opportunities if you can’t commit … Continue Reading…
