Winter Mornings
Sometimes winter can get a little gloomy. We don’t get much snow, so the idea of the world being blanketed in clean white snow is appealing (if we were under that blanket of snow, maybe not so much! {smile}). All we have so far is dead brown grass and scraggly bare trees.
So sometimes you have to look a little farther afield…a little deeper into the day…a little harder at the details…
To appreciate the slow creep of sunrise over the stubble fields…
Or the quiet rustle of calm animals grazing across the leftover grass…
Or the grunt of a waddling, lamb-heavy ewe hauling herself up after a nap…
Winter is a season where everything else in God’s creation slows down and rests. Even the sun wakes up late an goes to bed early.
One day I hope we learn how to let life ebb and flow with the seasons more.
“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time t pluck u that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; A time to rent, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love , and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8)
Having a little snow to cover up the brown prairie is nice. Looks like the ewes will be ready to lamb soon!
The Rancher told me today that I need to relax more … allow yourself a nap. This is the time to do it because once calving hits there is no extra rest.
