Lambing Season is the First Sign of Spring on the Farm
It’s been a little hard for me to find time to post regularly. I hope you’re following us over on Facebook–it’s much quicker to snap a picture with a smart phone then to take, edit, and watermark pictures to get up here at the blog so all our fuzzy new faces are popping up over there first!
{As always at this time of year, I post what we see when it comes to lambing. Sometimes that is…unexpected…even raw…and not always pretty. Some portions of the pictures below may be disturbing to sensitive readers or raise questions for children. If you have any questions about what you see, please feel free to ask here, by email, or over on our Facebook page!}
Sometimes it’s hard to get your feet underneath of you!
Sometimes life takes some trial and error.
And you could use a little encouragement from your loved ones.
But you just gotta keep trying!
A little love goes a long way!
It’s a strange dance that these experienced mommas do with the little ones. They have to get them clean, get them dry, get them up, and get them nursing.
And then sometimes it’s all that, times TWO!
And then the real work begins! {grin}
We are blessed that our flock this year is all experienced mommas that did just fine last year. We culled a few ewes at the end of last season that seemed to still be struggling to do their #1 job well. (Culling is just a formal word for “removed from flock”–in our case last year, they were sold for meat. Sometimes we also sell them for pets or to smaller farms that have the time to baby them along a little more than we do.)
Were you looking for something new and exciting to share with your kids? Something to wake them up after a long, dull winter? Follow our adventures here at The Lowe Farm with them this Spring! Our kids watch the spring unfold here every year and it never gets boring. Do your kids have questions? Send them over–we’ll be glad to answer them!
There will be new chicks showing up soon…new lambs bouncing around…a new calf expected in the next month or so…new fruit trees arriving any day now…there’s no end to the adventures on the farm in the Spring!
Looking for more farm and homestead fun? I’m linking up at … Wildlife Wednesdays, the Homestead Barn Hop, the Down Home Blog Hop, and Farm Fun Fridays.

How I wish we lived closer – I would love to pop over to your farm and watch all the new life!!
Awww, so cute! Thanks for the great pics – they made my afternoon. (Stopping by from the Down Home Hop)
