Being a Father, Being a Farmer

So…Mr. Fix-It spend the weekend knocking things off our ever-growing (never shrinking!) to-do list while I worked on cleaning the house and trying not to scream at the football game because I was nursing a migraine all weekend. (The kiddos kept stopping in to check on me and the score because they didn’t hear anything!)

Yep, Mr. Fix-It had the whole crew out with him pretty much all day on Sunday. And they were out all day playing in the woods on Saturday too–I practically had the weekend off!

They were cutting stuff, and screwing stuff and pounding stuff together all day.

They worked on converting the roof of the duck house into a hinged lid so we can bed it down better for the winter–especially since the ducks are laying eggs like crazy!

Unless I sneaked outside to snap a picture, I pretty much didn't see them unless they had to use the bathroom.

Then they replaced a couple porch railings that were getting warped by time and the elements (and questionable construction expertise on the part of our builder) and the back porch step that was somehow accidentally broken. I think the Cowboy was particularly glad to be part of that repair because he’s carried some lingering guilt about that particular “accident” for a while and he was able to work that off by helping to fix his mistake.

Here they are working on the duck house--or watching Daddy work on the duck house--or listening to Daddy explain how to work on the duck house. I don't know.

And no weekend job is complete without cleaning and sweeping the garage (usually before and after). Mr. Fix-It also hung a couple of pictures up for me, screwed the end caps on our front porch posts, and helped me trim up the jasmine and butterfly bushes around the front porch. (Seriously, it was out. of. control. The jasmine was consuming one of our rocking chairs!)

Yep, even the little guy helped out. He's had a really good attitude lately. Maybe we're turning the 5 yo tantrum-every-five-minutes corner?!!

Did you get a lot done this weekend? We’re trying to make the most of the beautiful fall weather lately, but I’m having a bit of a hard time keeping up with the family. I’m not sure if it’s sinus or stress (or both!) but my poor head is constantly aching–and occasionally pounding. I’m also trying to reduce the amount of caffeine and refined sugar in our lives–so if you have any “natural” headache remedies, I’d love to hear them!!

Do you have big plans for the week?

By the way, did you see the new Fall product roll out at Carhartt? We love their products of course (I’ve been known to refer to our kiddos as “the Carhartt Crew”) but I love the new ads! Doesn’t that look like it could be our Cowboy in another year or two?! We’re getting ready to order new bibs for the Ladybug this winter–hers will go down to the Cowboy and the Cowboy’s (which were the Ladybug’s a few years ago!) are going down to Speedracer. We always order at least a size up too, to try to get more years out of them. They are going to last much longer than they are going to fit!
