Winter Blast 2010!

I haven’t written in a while because I’ve been too busy being sick, sick, sick, and then enjoying extra time off for the holidays.  But I’m excited to catch up with everything as we head to toward the New Year.  I’m excited to catch up on this…

It was a glorious mess!

It turned out great!

The directions are sooooo misleading...it was way more than 4 steps!

But first I think I’ll mention this…

It was a white out!

Now, I know (from my high scientific reading of Little House on the Prairie) that there are specific criteria applied to the term “blizzard” that probably will never apply to any snow storm in Tidewater Virginia, but can I just say, WOW! We had a blizzard on Saturday evening and Sunday!  It snowed ALL DAY on Sunday.  This has already been a record winter for us with snow fall!

Didn't seem to faze the sheep much.

I’ve heard estimates of 10 to 14 inches.  I don’t really know what would be accurate for our area.  Here’s the thing, we had serious wind.  Sustained winds with some gusting.  This is part of our weather patterns no matter what precipitation we’re getting around here.  The snow was blowing sideways as much as it as falling and there’s areas around our house with barely and inch and areas around the yard where we almost lost Speedracer because the wind had blown drifts 2 and 3 ft deep.

We actually have enough snow to play in!

No State trucks got to our road until Monday evening, but Mr. Fix-It and the other guys up and down our little crossroads neighborhood got out there Monday morning when it stopped and plowed the roads and driveways for everyone.  Of course, there was also some ditch saves to be made.  The wind would blow the snow right back over the road and you couldn’t see where the roadway was. You just had to center yourself between the telephone poles (or stay home like the rest of us!)

Speedracer was done when he ended up with snow in his pull-up.

So I got an extra day and a half off work to spend with my crew.

Who wouldn't rather stay home with these smiling faces?

And we loved every minute of it.

I think my poor house is ready for us all to get out and give it a break though.
