Whew, I’ve missed my little blog! Having time to write means having time to breath and I just have had any lately!
But I hope you’ll join me for some arts, some crafts, and some creativity! I love linking up with craft blogs and floating around to get more inspiration.
Normally, I tend to be very good about shutting off my computer and walking out the door of my office at 5 pm and being completely done with my out-of-the-house job for the day. Not perfect, (ha!) but I’ve long since stopped bringing work home (actual to-do work) and I’m getting better and better about not bringing emotional baggage from work home too. (Which is not easy for me because my profession is a passion of mine, not “just a job”. But that’s a whole different post.) The past two weeks that just wasn’t working out. I brought work home and I brought worry home and I brought 14 inches of files home…
But here I am again and I’ve got a quick card to post.

I’ve started my on-line scrapbooking class too. Our first lesson was posted on Monday. I squeezed in about an hour or so to work on it the last couple days, although I don’t have anything to show yet. Our first lesson was to make a family tree and to put together a lifeline or timeline of the loved ones life as a page. I’ve been taking notes and collaborating with my sister to fill in some gaps, but I haven’t started a page layout yet.

I think this class is going to be a little challenging for me. Not only do I have to wade through my grief, but I have to figure out how to express everything for two individual people. Mom and Dad. Tim and Cindy. Or as my uncle said at their memorial service, “‘Tim&Cindy’, it was one word.” (And I think there’s a scrapbook page right there…) Do I focus on them as individuals? Do I focus on them as a couple? Do I do both and this project takes the rest of my life?
So far, I think I might do individual timelines for each of them through their life, AND do one starting when they got married and continue it as a family event timeline. There might be some duplication (and I might not do it all right now) but I think that expresses so much of who they were (individuals and a family) and also so much of what I want to document. And I also think I might start with the family tree because that might be easier and less overwhelming for me. :)

I’d love to hear your thoughts on tackling this. My first thought is that I don’t have to figure it all out right now, thank goodness! But this class is a great way to think through some of it. I’m actually excited to have these talks with my sister and have all these memories bubbling up–even though some of it is hard. Have you done anything like this? Did you scrap good stuff and bad stuff? Did having an audience in mind (Memories for your kids vs therapy for myself) change your perspective? Please share!
And don’t forget to link up over in the left sidebar if you’ve got a recent craft or creative post to share–I know you’ve been up to something!
