It’s Wild Out There

My office is in an old, old building in the middle of…well…no where. Next to a swamp. No joke.

So we have all kinds of…visitors.

My boys love to hear stories of all the wildlife sightings. We have lizards and snakes and crazy giant beetle bugs…

This is a 5-striped skink. You should hear the Cowboy pronounce that!

I would prefer if they stayed outside, and that’s not always the case. It’s not so much the thing itself, but more the way it surprises you by darting out under the door in front of you!

I think this one's called a Hurculean beetle. It was about 3-4 inches long. HUGE.

Besides the total creepiness factor, working in the middle of the country has some benefits.

I’m close to home.

I get to take a gravel road to remind myself that I’m in the country when everything starts to feel a little pressed in.

And I get to see beauty all around me.

See that whole hillside along the road?

It’s lovely on good days.

It’s soothing on rough days.

The whole bank is covered in daylillies.

It’s peaceful.

Something I need these days.
