Spring Has Shown Up…the Daily Farm Adventures {45}
Well, Spring has finally decided to arrive in our little corner of Virginia! {smile} Everything is popping up and turning green. The grass has come back!

Spring pastures.
Our poor, neglected garden is coming alive again–and the chances of survival are much higher since we’ve moved the sheep onto the father pastures!

We’ll be cleaning up for the sheep shearer this weekend and then setting up the brooder house and refreshing the chicken tractor for new spring chicks coming next week! Most of the new chicks will be meat chickens but we’ll have a few more layers as well. It takes 6 months or more for a chicken to start laying eggs, so you really have to plan ahead if you’ve got plans for increasing production. We’re planning now for next Spring.

The lambs are all growing just fine. The oldest few are already losing their lamb cuteness. Olivia and the other sets of twins are still smaller though. The fresh grass should have them putting on a good growth spurt. It’s always interesting to see them adapt to a much bigger area. You hear a lot more Momma bawling and baby crying the first couple of days until they get use to keeping track of each other.

Speaking of lambs, do you have plans for Easter?
I’m really sitting back and feeling the holiday out this year. I feel like we’ve got Halloween settled, and we’ve tackled Christmas and Santa Claus traditions for our family, but Easter is one I don’t have a firm grasp on yet. To me, being intentional parents means we don’t just get to “do what we always do.” It means we make a decision based on what is meaningful and what is not meaningful to us. And to us, that means what is Biblical and what is pleasing to God.

I understand Easter, but I’m not sure what is a meaningful celebration of Easter for us. Yet. My gut tells me it probably doesn’t include giant stuffed rabbits or Easter egg Pez dispensers. {smile} But just like everything else, we’ll figure it out slowly. The Christian walk is a journey and God’s still working on me! {smile}
And, I did want to share a current sale at Dayspring that I just used myself…Their coffee and tea mugs are BUY 2 GET 1 FREE — and they are beautiful! They would be a perfect, thoughtful gift for Easter, or in our case for Mother’s Day and Teacher Appreciation Day coming up soon! Dayspring is a great company and I find that their gifts are a wonderful, sensitive, way to share the Word with friends, family, and acquaintances that might need to hear it–but don’t want to hear it from you. {smile}
Do you have any wonderful Spring plans this weekend?
I’ll be putting up some chicken wire before we put our broccoli and cabbage plants in the ground and we’ll be cleaning the barns and fields the animals just moved out of. Follow us on Facebook to keep up with weekend fun!
