In the Green Grass…the Daily Farm Adventures {87}
This will be a busy week here at The Lowe Farm. We have Vacation Bible School at church and the kiddos will be in class while Mr. Fix-It and I will be teaching another class. So this weekend we prepped a week of meals, did a lot of laundry, and did a lot of camo painting to get ready. Have you been following us on Facebook or Instagram to see all the #vbsprep pictures?
What we didn’t get done, was any mowing!
It’s acceptable right now, but by the end of the week, it’s gonna be crazy! {smile}
This time of year, even the animals grazing can’t keep up with all of it. And the farm paths for walking the dogs…don’t even think about it! There’s spots that are already higher than Coal’s head. The sheep are belly deep these days.
Of course, after the ugly brown and yellow of winter, I’m not complaining! (Well, I’m trying not to!) We’ll definitely get the back yard cut for the kiddos at some point this week. The ticks and snakes are so bad this year that mowing is the only way to keep some control over our house spaces. The good news is that the Ladybug is a great mower! We’ll probably send her out there tomorrow or Wednesday to knock it all back a little bit.
By the way, these pictures are pretty much unedited, except for size. The grass really is that bright, neon, green right now. It’s the rain lately. The rain and the heavy dew give it that bright color in the mornings and evenings. There’s a flush of new growth every day and the tips of the blades are bright, bright green.
I’m so glad that it’s getting light early again. It’s SO hard to get up at 5 or 5:30 am when it’s cold and dark outside. I’m not much of a morning person, but Coal wakes me up every morning no later than 5:25 am for the morning walk. (Sometimes earlier if he thinks he can get away with it!) Good thing I don’t have to speak to him or Penny of them if I don’t want to. They don’t mind me being silent and grouchy as long as we’re going. And my mood is usually much improved by the time we get back 30 minutes later. Then I sit and have a cup of coffee while the rest of the house is still asleep for another 20 minutes or so.
I definitely prefer summer mornings to winter mornings!
Oh, and another good thing about 5:30 in the morning? Most of the annoying bugs aren’t out yet. By 6:30 they’re starting to appear.
The kiddos have been out of school for a week now, and we have vbs this week, so we really won’t be hitting a solid summer routine for another week or so. But I enjoy having the munchkins at home and not having to worry about any homework or getting in bed on time for a few months. I like that they can play outside until after dark, have a “sleep in” in the playroom together in the middle of the week, and hang out in their jammies until after breakfast sometimes. We still try to have a routine, but it’s much more relaxed.
How’s your summer shaping up?
What a great view for your morning coffee and devo!
