Wednesday Windings 9/1/2010…
Over the weekend I was quite inspired, so I should have plenty of fuel for crafty posts over the next couple weeks. But scrapbooking from scratch is so much more involved (and intimidating!) than most of my other papercrafting projects that I usually warm up with a couple of cards first.
So here’s a couple cards with the new Stampin’ Up! In Colors.
This one is a 5 x 5 card, and the patterned paper does most of the design work. I really, really love that Poppy Parade color–not quite red, but not really orange–so don’t be surprised if it you see it here a lot for the next couple months!
I used Crystal Effects on the poppy flowers in the background paper, the butterfly, and the heart in the sentiment to give them some gloss and pop. It doesn’t come across as well in the picture as real life. I did cut that background paper from a 12 x 12 sheet specifically trying to use the flower design in the card front. It sort of speaks for itself.
And, as Mr. Fix-It will tell you, I’m not crazy about change. So naturally I’m not one to quite on a good design just because I already used it! Here’s a second card using the same design pattern.
Different colors, of course. And this one is a 4 x 4 (which is a very awkward size when it comes to envelopes!). But it’s the same basic sentiment/ribbon/cut out element. I like the flower background paper a little more.
I’m thinking about trying this one a little smaller still (maybe 3 x 3 or 3.5 x 3.5) and making a set as a teacher-gift. This one went to the Cowboy’s teacher as a “thanks-for-surviving-the-first-week-without-kicking-him-out” card. I love Stampin’ Up! papers because they come in coordinated packs, so you can use the same color scheme for a set of cards without using the exact same papers the whole time. The toughest part of card gift sets is making the matching envelopes–ugh!
I’ll have more projects next week. But if you just can’t wait that long, go visit the Dirt Diva. She posts cards and projects nearly every day! I’m on my way over there right now to borrow the design from her “13/25” post from Monday!
