Planting Seeds
We had great weather this weekend (unless you have allergies!) so we got a lot done. Of course, I was hyped-up on Benadryl the whole time–seriously people, step away from the lawn mowers, just step away!–but it only slowed me down a little bit.
By far, one of our best adventures this weekend was planting sunflowers with the crew.
It was our reward at the end of the day on Saturday after planting the rest of our veggies, weeding and mowing the yard and flower beds, checking fences, cleaning the house, and galloping around on stick horses all afternoon.
Mr. Fix-It disced up some unused property next to our top field and we let the kids throw out the seeds.

He put the Ladybug in charge of the bag of seeds, since she has the best walking-carrying-throwing stuff-all-at-one-time coordination.
I’m not completely sure how scientifically successful this whole process is going to end up being…
…But it was an awful lot of fun for just a couple of bucks worth of seed.
It did occur to me that our kids look like mismatched vagabonds on the weekends at home, though.
But lets be serious for a moment.
Dirt, dust, laughter, sunshine, and taking part in the elemental cycle of creation–what more could you ask for from family time?
If even one of those plants comes up, they will be thrilled.
We topped off our weekend thrills by taking a ride around the property on the Ranger (our UTV) looking for turkeys. We didn’t see any, but we did see a rabbit and a deer.
And then we stopped off to visit our neighbors across the road before dinner. Since it’s started staying light out longer, we’re eating later and later at night–especially on “stay-home days.” We didn’t get inside until about 8 o’clock on Saturday. And we still had dinner and baths to get done!
Do you find that happening to you too in the summer? What were you up to this weekend?
What a fun day!! We can’t plant outside yet, but my hubby has lot of seeds started inside 🙂
Even with the longer days, our girls are still in bed by 6:30pm. They are wiped – and so am I!!
I’m sure the Sunflower garden will be beautiful!! The kids looked like they had so much fun. I know my kids favorite thing to do this time of year is to help with the garden. I can’t wait to see how it turns out. 🙂
I do hope they see some good progress. That will make them so much more excited about it. I’m kind of hoping it might bloom and be a perfect background for some pictures.
