Thankful for Sweaty Faces…Thankful on a Thursday 07/07/2011

I already mentioned how much work we did together as a family this past holiday weekend. We were out there getting sweaty and dirty and checking off our TO-DO lists.

We had to paint/stain our porches. They needed it. Bad.

I am so thankful for our crew. They are just such a [loud, squabbling, paint-flinging] joy to have around. I am thankful they are learning to be helpful and useful (which are not always the same thing!). I am thankful they are not (usually) afraid of getting dirty to get the job done.

“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men: Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.” (Colossians 3:23-24)

Look at that serious face!

I am thankful for the time we had together to talk, to learn, to bond as a family.

“And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou list down, and when thou risest up.” (Deuteronomy 6:6-7)

Ok, look at that face! They're wondering why I'm taking pictures instead of helping.

And I’m thankful for pizza, because after a day of sweating and painting and cleaning, who wants to cook?

“Thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he treadeth out the corn.” (Deuteronomy 25:4)

We only got half finished because of drying time, and then rain, and then more drying time.

And I’m thankful for Mr. Fix-It, the paint and repair Director around here.

“Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him this is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him.” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10)

Were you wondering about Speedracer?

I’m thankful for our house to shelter in. Yesterday’s thunderstorms had the kids a little freaked out until they got inside away from the lightening. It was sweet to see how safe and secure they felt as soon as they were inside.

“Yea, the sparrow hath found a house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine alters, O Lord of hosts, my King and my God. Blessed are they that swell in thy house: they will be still praising thee. Selah.” (Psalms 84:3-4)

He helped. We had to scrub brown paint off him too. He just played out earlier than the other two.

And I’m thankful for the rain. We needed it and now the grass is shooting up again.

“Thou wateriest the ridges thereof abundantly: thou settlest the furrows thereof: thou makest it soft with showers: thou blessest the springing thereof…The pastures are clothed with flocks; the valleys also are covered over with corn; they shout for joy, they also sing.” (Psalms 65:10, 13)

I would be incomplete without those faces to look at each day.

“It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High: To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night…For thou, Lord, has made me glad through thy work: I will triumph in the works of thy hands.” (Psalms 92:1-2,4)

What are you thankful for this week?
