So I’ve been crafting in between everything in our lives these day getting ready for our first craft show in a few weeks. You know, one more thing to throw on the pile of Fall busyness–it adds a little excitement to our days. (‘Cuz we need so much more around here, right?!)
I was even working on the commercials during the football game. You know, the one where our Packers wiped the field with the Denver Broncos? Yeah, well, here’s some tips if you’re going to craft while watching football…
1. Work in a separate room. Do not try to work in the same room as the TV. Then your “commercials only” policy tends to bleed into game time and your fingers tend to bleed all over your fabric when you misjudge a snip of your scissors and catch your knuckle instead. (This really freaks your kids out, too.)
Best policy? TV in living room, sewing machine in adjacent dining room. Oh yeah, and no scissors in either location.
2. Turn the throttle down on your machine. It’s amazing how the sound of the announcer’s voice getting excited can get you excited–which gets your foot excited–and it’s just down hill from there. Or rather, down the seam and around the corner and off the piece.
Best policy? Break the project into very tiny steps so that you’re sure to be done when the commercials are. You know, like, pick out a button–go watch the game. Pick out your button thread–go watch the game. Thread your needle–go watch the game–In other words, stay away from your machine!
3. Do not, under any circumstances, run into the living room to see anything with an open box of pins in your hand. Celebrating a touchdown is great–accidentally winging a box of dress pins backwards over your shoulder in your excitement? Not so much. (And this really freaks your kids out too.)
Best policy? Just don’t do anything that involves pins while trying to watch football. Especially when you’re winning.
Maybe it’s not because of the football. Maybe the real key is that I should have taken a break from the laundry, making dinner, and supervising homework while crafting and watching football.
But like I mentioned, we like a little excitement around here! {grin}
