The other day the Ladybug came and asked me for help with the chicken yard fence because it had fallen over.
Again.
And all the chickens were out.
Again.
The rainbow flock…IN the chicken yard! {smile}And I thought–Wow, aren’t we all just like that? Not asking for help until the maximum damage is already done?
Ok, actually, my first thought was “Are you kidding me?! Again?! For crying out loud, I am darn sick of chasing these chickens!”
But my next thought–as I swished through the calf-high grass with my open-toed high-heeled sandals–was if we would just stop cutting corners and take the time to fix it as soon as someone sees a problem, I would save myself a lot of shoes!
Say hello to Specky, Blondie, Blackie, and Brownie. Creative, I know. {smile}But the fact is, we usually don’t see the problem.
The urgent overcomes the important. We rush around like chickens with our heads off (hahaha!) worrying about 100 other things when the most important stuff is right under our noses. The good overcomes the best.
We’ve been operating in “not bad” mode for a while now this summer and it’s not working. It happens to everyone now and then, but with the farm, we often get a very concrete wake-up call somewhere along the line. {smile}
Like chickens everywhere!
Looks at this enterprising young redhead–she’s already halfway over the fence from this position!Our crew goes back to school on Monday and, wow, that seems fast! Summer is over! I was out there wrangling chickens for an hour and not even breaking a sweat–fall weather is here too. (Although I’m not convinced it’s going to stay!) How does the time go so fast? I don’t know, but there’s no way to slow it down. You just have to make the most of it and hold on for the ride.
Look at that beautiful green and gold tinting! I love these black chickens!We’ve got a lot of changes coming up this year–and it turns out there’s nothing new about that! Our life seems to be nothing but new challenge after new challenge rolling over the household like a summer thunderstorm.
My “baby” is going to Kindergarten. Speedracer is going to be a “big K5 kid.” Oh my. And the Ladybug is turning 9 years old this weekend. 9 years old! How is that possible? I’m the mother of a 4th grader. That certainly sounds like it should come with a lot more gray hair than I have. (No comments from the peanut gallery!)
And remember how I keep thinking the Lord wants me to step up and do more? Well, I prayed for Him to show me a way to serve more and the other day our Pastor called and asked me to help teach one of our Wednesday night Bible Clubs for this coming school year. I have no doubt the opportunity was directly from the Lord, but it’s a big responsibility! Especially since I’ll start out by helping with the Ladybug’s class–I truly believe some of them are more mature in the Lord than I am! But three weeks from now, I’ll be there. (And Mr. Fix-It is getting a kick out of teasing me about being on my best behavior now that I’m “a Sunday School teacher” and all.)
Sometimes I think the Lord is saying, “Jump or be pushed, but either way, you are going out of this nest!” {smile}
