In the Snow…the Daily Farm Adventures
Laugh if you want to, but we got A LOT of snow.
For here. {smile}
First the back field looked like this…
Then it started snowing…
And when we woke up the next morning…
I’m beginning to wonder if the kiddos will ever go back to school again! {smile}
They’re really enjoying it though. We’ve done a lot of Legos and played a lot of Go-Fish, and I’ve sent them out with faithful Penny for at least an hour a day–although they usually only make it about 40 minutes.
I’m finally just now starting to feel like a normal person again. This cold virus thing has been beating me up pretty bad! But it’s a blessing that no one else has caught it, so I’m trying not to fuss. Yesterday the Ladybug told…”Well, you’re looking better, Momma.” High praise! {smile} I even put my contact in this morning for the first time since the snow days started.
The animals are handling it fine, of course. We knew it was coming and had plenty of feed stacked and stored and bedding down and everyone was snug before it got here. The cows aren’t crazy about it–they aren’t crazy about anything less than sunny and 80+ degrees–but they’re getting a bit of extra corn to get through the coldest parts of the day so they aren’t complaining too much.
And the sheep, well, they hardly seem to notice–even though they are wearing frost on the outermost layers of their fleeces! {smile} All they care about is that the food keeps coming! The Ladybug has been an extra chore helper to me lately and she’s been very excited that after we feed up, we stop and look over all the ewes–and if you look really close you can watch the lambs kick and turn in their sides!! We could have babies any day now!
It’s supposed to be sunny and 50 all weekend, which means our place will be mud soup in a day or two. Not ideal for lambing, but at least the bugs aren’t out yet!
How’s winter coming along at your place?
Looking for a little snow day fun? We’ve been enjoying some Nat Geo Wild card games that the Cowboy got for Christmas. They’re right in our age range and the cards are pretty sturdy for little hands–and the munchkins all love the wild animals, of course.
