Run While the Sun Shines…the Daily Farm Adventures {44}
This weekend it was sunny and 70 degrees and we were on the go all weekend.
We woke up well before the alarm clock on Saturday to a cow bellowing in the driveway. There’s no fencing in the driveway, so there should not be cows in the driveway. Ha! Turns out he was the least of our troubles. He was bellowing for the rest of our little family herd–who were across the street grazing in the neighbors front yard. The good news is that right now the animals are used to being fed regularly, so I just shook a bucket of grain and hollered, “Moooolly…here Molly-Molly-Molly!” and Molly lead them all galloping home. (She likes to eat.)
I’m starting to take for granted that having kid-friendly gate latches and school-age chore-ers just means that the animals are going to get out more often. {shrug} Just like having a 4 year old empty the dishwasher is going to mean more broken dishes. You just clean it up and see if you can adjust something or if it’s just human error.
The Ladybug slept right through it, but the boys were up and bright-eyed, so I started some coffee.
The boys had a flag-football game in the morning and the Ladybug had a soccer game. The Ladybug’s soccer coach is a member of our church and one of the children’s bible school teachers and several of her teammates are church friends, so her games are also quite the social event. {smile} Then we had the Pine Car Derby at our church (so we all left the soccer field and reconvened our little fellowship two hours later at church!).

The Ladybug called her car “the Patriot.” (middle, white line.)
The Derby is one of the special annual activities for our Wednesday night children’s program called Master Clubs. After our local event, our winning cars are mailed to Ohio to be raced against other local winners–and they live stream the national racing for the kiddos to see how their local cars do! Last year was the first time our church participated.

The Cowboy called his car “N-it-2-Win-it.” (middle, white line)
I posted some in-progress pictures to Facebook the last couple weeks. The cars come in a kit as a block of wood, four nails, and four wheels. Our kiddos draw their design, Mr. Fix-It cuts it out of them, then they sand it down. Mr. Fix-It sprays a coat of primer on it, then they each paint their own. This is kinda a “Daddy-and-me” event for us, I just stand back and watch. This year the four of them watched some YouTube videos together to get some tips, so there was a lot more sanding and polishing and graphite and weights and other technical stuff I don’t know anything about.

Speedracer called his car “Car-go.” (middle white line.)
But it paid off, apparently. Our crew’s cars were fast! {smile} They each came home with a ribbon and Speedracer came home with a trophy. And they were all pretty gracious about it, which is the important part!
Then we headed home to meet some friends for dinner and visiting. And in the middle of dinner, we had to shuttle “Olivia” back and forth for her Easter Cantata performance at another local church. I’m sure she was the star of the show!
Sunday we were back with our church family, then the kiddos napped. I had to run to Walmart for printer ink and Tractor Supply for T-posts (I’ve got another idea for those pesky chickens!) Then we spent a hour or two on the shooting range with the kiddos (the core of gun safety is practice!) and came home to finish the Ladybug’s egg drop project.
Whew! We had to run Olivia back and forth for her last performance with the kiddos in their jammies to get everyone in bed at a decent hour! But as they say, “Make hay while the sun shines!” Today it’s rainy and dark. That’s fine for a Monday, but would have ruined our weekend–what a strange blessing the weather can be!
How was your weekend? Are you getting Spring fever?

Wow! You were super busy 🙂 We had Sophie’s first T Ball practice and then enjoyed the warmer temps as much as we could!!
Yes, hopefully we won’t have many more quite like that. It just became “the perfect storm” as things kept coming up! I should have guessed you’d have a ball player! 🙂
